[01] Access to Finance

Unlock Finance at Scale

Capital is most transformative when it is the right capital, structured for the right opportunity, at the right time.

Across Africa, promising businesses, projects and investment opportunities often struggle to access finance—not necessarily because capital does not exist, but because the connection between capital and opportunity is poorly structured. Businesses may be seeking growth capital when what they need is working capital. A promising enterprise may be offered short-term debt for a long-term investment. An investor may see risk where a better transaction structure could mitigate it. Capital providers may overlook opportunities because they lack the market perspective, information, or conviction required to underwrite them confidently.

CAPITAL AS A FORCE works to close these gaps.

We provide financial and transaction advisory and structuring to help businesses, projects and institutions become better positioned for capital. We work with qualifying ventures and opportunities to understand their underlying capital needs, strengthen their financial propositions, structure transactions and identify the right types, sources and tenors of capital—whether debt, equity, grants, guarantees, blended finance or other catalytic instruments.

But access to finance is not only a demand-side challenge. Capital itself needs better perspectives.

We work with discerning investors, capital providers and institutions to develop the market intelligence, investment lenses and conviction required to identify opportunities that others may overlook, understand risk more intelligently and deploy capital where it can be most transformative. This means looking beyond conventional categories and asking better questions about markets, businesses, sectors and systems: What is really constraining growth? What kind of capital can change that constraint? What risks are structural, and which can be mitigated? Where can capital achieve both attractive returns and meaningful additionality?

Our approach therefore sits at the intersection of finance, investment and development. We help opportunities become more investable, transactions become more executable, and investors become more confident in where and how they deploy capital.

The objective is not simply to move more money.

It is to move the right capital into the right opportunities, with the right structure, and to help that capital create outcomes that would otherwise not be possible.

[02] Development Programming

Implement sustainable development programs with perspectives that multiply impact.

Good development ideas need more than funding. They need context, capable execution and a clear line between intervention and impact.

Across Africa, donors and funders commit significant resources to addressing economic, social and environmental challenges. Yet the distance between a well-designed programme and meaningful outcomes can be considerable. Interventions need to respond to local realities, navigate complex markets and institutions, engage the right stakeholders, and adapt as conditions change. Too often, the challenge is not a lack of ambition or funding, but the capacity to translate strategy into effective action on the ground.

CAPITAL AS A FORCE works as an implementing partner for donors, foundations, and other funders seeking to deliver development and impact programmes in Africa.

We help funders move from intent to implementation by designing and delivering programmes grounded in market realities and built around clear, measurable outcomes. We can support the full programme lifecycle, from intervention design and stakeholder engagement to implementation, technical assistance, enterprise support, capital mobilisation, ecosystem development, monitoring and learning.

Our approach combines development expertise with a practical understanding of finance, markets and enterprise. This allows us to design interventions that do more than address immediate needs. We look for ways to strengthen the systems, capabilities and market conditions that can sustain impact beyond the life of a programme.

We work closely with funders to translate their priorities into interventions that are locally relevant, commercially informed and operationally executable. Whether the objective is improving access to finance, strengthening enterprises, developing markets, advancing livelihoods, supporting innovation or building institutional capacity, we bring the local relationships, implementation capability and problem-solving discipline required to deliver.

For funders, this means having a partner that can operate close to the ground while remaining focused on the outcomes that matter at the strategic level.

We do not simply implement projects. We help turn development capital into programmes that work, and into outcomes that endure.

[03] Impact Strategy

Move sustainability from marginal agenda to core business logic

Impact should not sit at the edge of the business. It should be embedded in how the business creates value.

Sustainability and impact have become increasingly prominent in corporate, investment and development conversations. Yet prominence does not always translate into substance. Impact can easily become a reporting exercise, a communications narrative, a set of metrics or an initiative sitting alongside the “real” business. The result is often a gap between what organisations say about impact and how they actually make decisions, deploy capital and create value.

CAPITAL AS A FORCE believes real impact begins when it becomes part of the core business logic.

We work with organisations, investors and development partners to develop the perspectives, frameworks and strategies that make impact integral to how they operate and allocate resources. This means going beyond the language and conventions of the impact sector to ask more fundamental questions: What does meaningful impact actually look like? Where does it come from? What is the organisation uniquely positioned to change? How does impact interact with financial and strategic value? And how should those insights influence decisions?

Our approach is grounded in a practical understanding of capital, markets, enterprises and development. We understand that impact is not simply about the amount of money committed or the number of beneficiaries reached. It is about additionality, depth, durability and the extent to which an intervention changes outcomes that would otherwise have been different.

We help clients translate that understanding into actionable strategy—developing impact theses, investment lenses, frameworks, decision tools and approaches that connect purpose to capital allocation and operational choices. For investors, this can mean sharper views on where capital can be genuinely additional and transformative. For businesses, it can mean identifying where impact can strengthen long-term value creation and competitive advantage. For development partners, it can mean designing interventions around the mechanisms that can produce durable change rather than simply measurable activity.

We are not interested in impact for impact’s sake, or sustainability as a box to tick.

We want to understand where impact is real, why it happens, what makes it durable, and how it can become part of the way an organisation thinks and does business.

Our goal is to move impact from a marginal agenda to a core business logic, where it shapes strategy, informs decisions, directs capital and ultimately creates deeper, more durable value.
